5 Things I Learned from Being on a Reality TV Show For Entrepreneurs

Last year, I was selected to be on The Blox, a reality competition show created by Wes Bergmann (yes, the same Wes from MTV’s The Challenge and The Real World). The show brings together over 70 small business owners for one high-pressure, weeklong experience focused on business, mindset, and growth.
When I walked into this, I wasn’t in the best place. I had just ended a business partnership that didn’t work out, and I was back to rebuilding my business. I had applied for The Blox while I was still in that partnership, but when we parted ways, I made the decision to continue on my own.
This was a big challenge for me. I wouldn’t call myself extroverted, especially in large groups of people I don’t know. And now I was about to spend a week with 70-plus strangers, filming nonstop, constantly “on,” and completely out of my comfort zone. But I told myself that if I could learn one thing I didn’t already know, the experience would be worth it.
Turns out, I walked away with a whole lot more than that.
Here are my top five takeaways from filming a reality show for entrepreneurs:
1. Confidence Comes from Showing Up
Just being accepted onto The Blox reminded me I’m capable. A lot of what we learned during the show, I already knew. And while that may not sound exciting, it actually gave me confidence. It confirmed that I do know what I’m doing and that I’ve been building a solid foundation all along.
2. The Entrepreneur Community Is Wildly Supportive
I expected competition. I got connection. The friendships I made on the show were real. Many of the people I met have become clients, collaborators, and lifelong supporters. When you put yourself in rooms full of ambitious people, amazing things happen.
3. Growth Requires Discomfort
This experience pushed me in ways I didn’t expect. Being filmed 24/7, talking about my business on camera, pitching under pressure, all of it was hard. But growth doesn’t happen inside your comfort zone. I learned that the hard stuff is usually where the good stuff starts.
4. Your Story Matters
There were people from every industry imaginable on this show. What stood out was not their revenue or how many followers they had, but their story. Owning your journey, failures, pivots, restarts and all, is what makes you relatable, trustworthy, and memorable.
5. Sometimes the Win Is Just Getting Back Up
I didn’t place in the competition, but I walked away with a renewed sense of purpose. After getting into a rebuild mindset, this gave me the momentum I needed. It reminded me why I started and who I’m doing it for.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a content creator, or someone looking for a push, this is your reminder to say yes to the scary stuff. You never know what doors it might open.
